Baklava or baclava  is a traditional dessert common to all peoples of the former Byzantine Empire, Persia and the former Ottoman Empire. It is the national dessert Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey and the Balkans kitchens (Albania, Bosnia, Serbia, Macedonia, Croatia and Romania), the Middle East and also North Africa. This dessert is also very common among Georgians, Azeris, Armenians and Cypriots.
